Course Description:

This independent study uses JESUS: A Deaf Missions Film to examine themes of power, privilege, oppression, inclusion, advocacy, and language access. Through guided reflection, participants will explore how social, political, and religious power shaped the experiences of individuals throughout the story, while also considering the importance of presenting meaningful content in a community's primary language.

As participants analyze the film, they will examine examples of compassion, advocacy, exclusion, and justice, as well as the role of American Sign Language (ASL) in creating equitable access to information and shared cultural experiences. Reflection questions encourage participants to think critically about representation, belonging, communication, and the impact of accessible storytelling.

After viewing the film, participants will complete a guided written reflection by selecting and responding to the provided reflection questions.
