Course Description:
This independent study uses the Pixar film Inside Out 2 to explore themes of identity, belonging, social inclusion, bias, emotional awareness, and the impact of internal and external expectations. Through guided reflection, participants will examine how emotions, relationships, and social pressures influence the way individuals see themselves and interact with others.
As Riley navigates adolescence, new emotions emerge and challenge her developing sense of self. Participants will analyze how experiences of acceptance, rejection, belonging, and fear can shape identity while considering the role empathy and self-awareness play in creating more inclusive communities.
After viewing the film, participants will complete a guided written reflection using provided reflection questions to analyze the themes presented throughout the movie.
Educational Objectives:
Identify examples of identity development, belonging, and social inclusion portrayed in the film.
Examine how emotions and social expectations influence decision-making and relationships.
Recognize examples of bias, exclusion, and the desire for acceptance experienced by the characters.
